Artistic Director and Conductor, Leroy Wiens, holds music degrees from the University of British Columbia (B.Mus) and the University of Oregon (M.Mus), specializing in conducting and voice. He studied conducting under several noted conductors including Helmuth Rilling, Wayne Riddell, William Baerg and James Fankhauser. Mr. Wiens has furthered his skills with sessions at the Oregon Bach Festival and was one of four Canadian conductors selected to study at a 1991 conducting symposium in Elora, Ontario.
In addition to the Kelowna Community Chorus, Leroy Wiens currently conducts the Okanagan Festival Singers and has been a guest conductor with the Okanagan International Festival of the Arts, Viva Musica and the Kelowna Mozart Festival. As well as being a popular Okanagan conductor, Mr. Wiens has held the position of Assistant Conductor with the Vancouver Cantata Singers and has worked with numerous church choirs.
Leroy Wiens is in demand as a conducting clinician and a teacher of private music lessons. He was an Associate Professor of Music at Okanagan Bible College from 1982-1992 and is currently employed as a music specialist for School District #23. Mr. Wiens and his wife and family reside in Kelowna, British Columbia.
